Script - Bone Weight Merger

Has this happened to you? You want to reduce the overall number of bones in a model but weight painting is scary? Is the constant clicking required for setting up weight mix modifiers just not doing it for you?

This is a script that will merge (add) your goddamn weights and even clean up the old bones as well.

V2 is fixing some problems with autoapply/autodelete

The settings are at the top of the file.

  • Open script in blender text editor
  • Engage weight paint mode
  • Select all bones you want merged, with the mix target bone selected last
  • click [Run Script]
  • (optional) all vertex weight mix modifiers get applied automatically
  • (optional) the merged bones (except target bone) are deleted from the armature

Tested with 2.79 only

Getting rid of Pink Models in Blender
Pink models are, similar to how it is in game engines, a sign that Blender is unable to find some textures. A common issue with downloaded files, and relatively easy to fix.
